Do you?<p><span>Some people don't have a clue. They just bounce around captive in their own limited mindset. Don't get upset by them. Aren't they simply annoying children wanting ALL the attention and control they can get in this world? Until the spirit that controls them is defeated they will stumble through life appearing perfect on the outside and tormented by their prevailing wickedness that is being fed. But God. </span><br /><br /><span>Remember the greatest of these is love. We are called to love like Jesus did and still does. Jesus didn't only love those he liked. We are called to love others the way we love our selves. </span><br /><br /><span>Love will pray earnestly for them. But maybe you are not ruled by the commandments of God and what he calls us to do. Maybe you are ruled by your self filled notions of right and only use the name of Jesus to be somehow righteous or to again, make yourself right. Nope. That won't work. Get your own heart right with Jesus. You must be born again. That will include dying to yourself, daily, and living to God instead. </span><br /><br /><span>Jesus came to set the captive free. </span><br /></p>Window Of Heavenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06292754658167423336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5550218918199022178.post-4208198899800227842023-08-24T14:01:00.001-07:002023-08-24T14:01:43.942-07:00<div><div class="" dir="auto"><div class="x1iorvi4 x1pi30zi x1swvt13 xjkvuk6" data-ad-comet-preview="message" data-ad-preview="message" id=":r23p:"><div class="x78zum5 xdt5ytf xz62fqu x16ldp7u"><div class="xu06os2 x1ok221b"><span class="x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x1lliihq x1s928wv xhkezso x1gmr53x x1cpjm7i x1fgarty x1943h6x xudqn12 x3x7a5m x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u x1yc453h" dir="auto"><div class="xdj266r x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs x126k92a"><div dir="auto" style="text-align: start;">This just came up today from my Facebook Memories from 6 years ago today upon the approach of hurricane Harvey! Praise you God! I am thankful for your goodness toward me that day. Only he knew I was a single mom of 3 sons with an empty nest, with no family around me. He did not want me to feel alone! <br /></div><div dir="auto" style="text-align: start;"> </div><div dir="auto" style="text-align: start;">YOU don't HAVE to read this BUT, I have to write it!!! </div><div dir="auto" style="text-align: start;">hurricane Harvey snuck-up on us around here today. If you took your lunch break from work to do a water and non perishables run the lines were way down the aisles! So by getting off time and back to the store by 5PM and it seemed like most of Huntsville was getting emergency supplies... just in case. There was NO bottled water to be found, much less a shopping basket. Everyone was friendly and courteous. I did look down on floor level shelves and discovered about 7 boxes of 3 gallons each <span></span>at the very back where no one looked..a blesing for me and the few around when I made the discovery. Someone found me a basket so I could carry my 2 boxes. Then the gas lines!! Wow! But people were again so friendly and considerate of each other. At another store a lady at the checkout wanted me to have a 6 pack of her waters! At Kroger the employee at the pharmacy checked out my $50. worth of just in case items, even though I bought no pharmacy items. At a gas station the attendant gave me $5.00 worth of free gasoline due to some mistake a customer made. He said he had to cash it out. Then to top it off someone gave me dried cranberries (which I love), some Planters peanuts, and two big cans of whiskey rubbed baked beans which I have never tried! All that sweetness and caring just astonished me. It's the little things that are the big things in life!</div><div dir="auto" style="text-align: start;"> </div><div dir="auto" style="text-align: start;"> I Have to say thank you again these 6 years later to God for stirring people up with love for me! Total strangers moved to do random things so that I see, feel, and rejoice in his precious love. I am amazed.<br /></div></div></span></div></div></div></div></div><p> </p>Window Of Heavenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06292754658167423336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5550218918199022178.post-90307053920977198312023-08-24T12:14:00.000-07:002023-08-24T12:14:40.452-07:00Love All, Hate Unrighteousness<p><span>The Lord God loves all. It is sin he hates. You can expect sin from the unsaved, and even then it can be a struggle to call on the Holy Spirit inside to love the sinner, and hate the sin no matter who they are. Further, when those who are the people called by his name who are follower's of Christ Jesus, who don't get that God himself has commanded to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and your neighbor as yourself is his greatest commandment given, and realize yes! my neighbor is my fellow man and woman. And yes, those I don't like, I am commanded to love! This is not easy! If you really believe your bible don't be so immature as to think he means for you to love only the ones you choose. Not so. Dear one, you must understand that the only way this can be possible for mankind is by calling on the power of the Holy Spirit that resides in blood bought children of the most High, God. You have to realize that the Lord God says, If you LOVE ME, you will keep my commandments. And with this we have come full circle. We cannot escape the Law of Love. Love the Lord your God To love as God requires us we must understand God's definition of love, and to grow in love. Hatred is not love! Return good for evil. Bless those who curse you. Love is made clear, if we WANT to be obedient to God and it is important we remember, If you love me you will keep my commandments. This means to grow in love. Here you find God's definition of love. I pray we all grow in love. What is impossible for man is possible with God. Heaven help us through the Holy Spirit which is in you if you have been born again. If not, call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, God's only begotten son who came to flesh through miraculous conception through the Holy Spirit of God and was born of a virgin and grew to be a man without sin who willingly withstood great humiliation, great suffering, and death by crucifixion to die in our place for your sin and mine that entered the world through one man, Adam. Behold the sacrificial Lamb, without spot or blemish, that takes away the sin of the world. For God as his great act of love gave of himself, his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life! </span><br /><span> 1st Corinthians Chapter 13. The love of God is the subject of the following:</span><br /><span>13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to ( be burned that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.</span><br /><br /><span>4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.</span><br /><br /><span>8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.</span><br /><br /><span>13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.</span><br /><span>Footnotes</span><br /><br /><span> 1 Corinthians 13:1 Or languages</span><br /><span> * 1 Corinthians 13:3 Some manuscripts body to the flames</span><br /><span> </span><br /><span>Holy Spirit of God our Father, Help us all to die to ourselves and live to you, and love you by loving our fellow man in their sin as Jesus did for us, and willingly, in obedience to you. For Lord how can we not be sold out to such a Savior?</span> <br /></p>Window Of Heavenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06292754658167423336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5550218918199022178.post-6122469876897530632023-08-24T09:44:00.002-07:002023-08-24T12:08:50.172-07:00Gypsy Soul. This world is not my home. Jan 05 2023<p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;"> Yesterday at the end of a yoga class after stretching and relaxing we were instructed to simply relax and to quietly go to our happy place wherever that was. As I began to search in my heart for my happy place, I saw you, big as life! My little boy. There, out in the area where we always went to launch your homemade rockets. It was a chilly day, and I saw you. Precious, about 8 years old. You were such an amazing child. Full of the brightness of life, and happy. Your dad and I were there and together we all watched as the homemade rocket took flight. You were a beautiful boy. The total outdoor, trying everything, and excelling type. You had the wind in your hair and sunshine in your soul. You never gave up when learning some new activity. You always mastered it. You were the only one I actually saw. You my dear were my happy place. <br /></span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">There we were, the three of us enjoying you as you enjoyed the rocket and being with your mom and dad. Already he was leaving us. We just didn't understand the signs. I knew how wrong things were, the not coming home from work till late into the night and drunk, always drunk. But, you were a little boy. and you hadn't noticed yet. Our lives were on terrible jagged rocks. If I could, I would go back to that time and grab you up and whisk you away. You would not have had to endure the years ahead when he totally and irreparably turned his back on you. It doesn't matter anymore what he did where I'm concerned. Just what he did to you. And your brothers to come. How can a man let something control him until he destroys the people he should love and protect and nurture.Instead giving in to outrageous anger in his drunken state, became a monster not a man. Only a woman stood between. And she stood! <br /></span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">He hurt you terribly, emotionally and mentally. He was your first heart break He left you before he was even gone. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;"> Now you have left this earth full of pain and sorrow. A grown man with sons of your own. I can't speak openly of those things I saw that utterly destroyed you. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">God help all the little boys that are abandoned by their daddies,who grow up to be grown men with that echoing hurt of abandonment. The broken promises, the lies, the not showing up. I am certain they carry such great shame and false guilt that they did something wrong that made them unworthy of a father's love. Even though they were innocent and amazing children that any man in his right mind would have clung to and loved rightly, and cherished. <br /></span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">You have been gone 3 years 2 months.(2 years and 3 months after your wife left this earth) Your sons, truly amazing sons, are 18 and 19 years old. (born 16 months apart) </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">I was a careful mother to you and your brothers, to never speak ill of your dad to you. I knew you got your identity from the same sex parent. The awful thing is that you had to see as you became young teen, and came to understand and to be ashamed of your own father. You loved him yet hated him for what he was doing. He kept crushing you.<br /></span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">God help the children. So many experience this. It is a shameful thing when fathers leave their children to the wolves.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">When I saw you in my happy place so beautiful. Innocent. Loving. At first I didnt want to look at you because it hurt so, and then I realized what a precious thing to see, to remember that little boy.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">If only I could have looked in your huge blue eyes and said, 'You are enough. Daddies make terrible mistakes sometimes,and terrible choices that cause them to lose control of their behavior. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">Enticed by a high, an alcohol addiction, a drug addiction, a sexual addiction, even illicit affairs become something that they love more, to their great shame. And to their children's great hurt, and harm to their psyche.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: times;">I believe you are in that place where there is no more sorrow. You are with a Father who always loves, and has your best interest at heart. You are home. I will see you again. This wandering gypsy soul has yet another reason to look forward to going home. </span></span><br /></p>Window Of Heavenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06292754658167423336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5550218918199022178.post-52971482636091426282019-08-27T19:45:00.000-07:002019-08-27T19:45:01.401-07:00AMAZING THINGS<div class="_1mf _1mj" data-offset-key="d1dn2-0-0">

Fear not, Don't be afraid, Be of good courage, and the like are found 365 times in the
Book of Books, the Bible. Fear comes to us in unfathomable ways if we
can recognize it. The lyrics of this song reveal some we may not realize.
God loves us a lot. He has been telling us down thru the ages to not be
afraid, but rather trust in him. Genesis 15:1 After these things the
word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I
am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. --Life will be better if
we recognize the many faces of fear, and trust God instead of walking
in fear. This is an ongoing lesson for me.</span></h2>

I wake up. My body stirs. I rise. My feet touch the floor. I feel the cold.<br />
I make the short way to the kitchen and start a coffee for myself. I am alone.<br />
<br />
There is quiet. No one to see to, they are all living adulthood.<br />
My nest this morning is pleasant with much potential and things to do.<br />
As I stand in the darkened front room my thoughts wander. You are there.<br />
<br />
In my workroom I open the blinds and morning has barely made itself known,<br />
I hear that birdsong trilling from the tall trees just outside my window and I see <br />
The lovely uneven treeline reaching to the sky. They have stood all night. You are there.<br />
<br />
Your spirit of goodness is always there, that spirit of care. I often don't realize.<br />
My mind competes with your presence with thoughts of must haves and must dos.<br />
Plans that impinge on the truth I dwell in. I close them all down, every care and draw on you,<br />
<br />
You are here.<br />
<br />
<br />

that I say, Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I and to repentance
where I fall short, and the empowering of the Holy Spirit to do the
will of God in my very own one life!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Romans 12:15 Rejoice with
those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind
toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the
lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evi<span class="text_exposed_show">l
for evil to anyone. Respect what is RIGHT in the sight of all men. 18
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of
God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the
Lord. 20 “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty,
give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his
head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.</span></span>Window Of Heavenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06292754658167423336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5550218918199022178.post-70580262924650839962019-01-03T14:35:00.005-08:002020-01-08T14:43:35.012-08:00SOMETIMES LIFE JUST SUCKS! A CHRISTIAN POINT OF VIEW<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="background-color: white;"></span>After a series of bad breaks in my senior years of life I have been feeling pretty useless. I have looked at my circumstances and asked in the depths of disappointment and despair, Why? What have I done? Am I a bad person deserving to be tossed around like a ruinous ship in terrible stormy sea?</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;">And thinking back from the earliest memories of my life till now I see sorrow and hardship and I realize the answer is no. I didn't do a thing to deserve the scenario that was parceled out to me. Then, I think of someone I know who life treated with worse horrors than my experiences. It was a great man, a loving man, One the world was unworthy of. He was by far the greatest, and in selection innocent of wrong doing. Truly not guilty, and why I was compelled to write this.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;">That man is Jesus Christ. I am reminded in Hebrews 12:</span><br />

How can this be in those guided by the Holy Spirit of God? Division is caused and confusion and an often total disconnect in the world wide Body of Christ between denominations. So, what is the truth? Hear the word of the Lord God: For God is not <span class="_4yxp">the author</span> of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. Being very careful to not get out of step with the Holy Spirit but embrace his voice as you ask for his truth in the matter as you test the spirits.</span></span></span></span></b></div>

That unless you are a follower of our church doctrine you are on the outside. You have not quite entered in. No place is that written except in their own church laws developed in a lie. <span style="font-size: large;">I
want to lay responsibility at the feet of those who have caused and
continue to generate murderous, anti-moral hearts and minds of America.
So Hollywood, Music Industry, writers of all sorts and most certainly
the news media and television programming. Artists who CHOOSE the dark
side, by using their talents and abilities for degradation of every
kind. So thank you to all you Hollywood types and media moguls that have
taken your own special wrecking ball to the heart of anything good. It
is your kind that want God OUT and your own way in. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Special
thanks to Miley Cyrus who decided it was high time to use her power over
American youth to stab them in the back. Also, special thanks to
Brittney Spears who showed her ass in more ways than one, and BEYONCE?
You went so far BEYOND entertainment as you stooped and graveled in the
filth of the occult. Thanks girls. Oh, as for Joy Behar of the View? Who could say
Joy in connection with you and not gag on it.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It is truly the
anus of America who has allowed themselves to be the tool of destruction
as you set out to intentionally under-mind every moral, every human
value and good thing held in honor. As you play the Pied Piper in word
and deed with your songs, your movies, your interviews and your sick
waste of opinions you have taught American youth to not hold anything
sacred, not even LIFE. You uphold the slaughter of babies, and esteem to
euthanize the old and helpless. You play god , you have believed the
serpent. You choose .</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Now...let's have that talk about how guns
and mental illness are the cause of what is happening in our schools as
when your evil work has born the fruit of destruction and the hearts of
reasonable people are torn you look to blame the blameless, to guilt the
guiltless. And like the whore that you are, who entices any to break
vow, afterward you wipe your mouth and say, "I've done nothing wrong." </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">
You would like to blame God and blaspheme every good thing that exists
because you are every evil thing in full operation. Nothing is sacred to
you except for you. Are you proud of your benign rhetoric? Of
attempting to render God unholy? Senseless? Imaginary? You hope for
annihilation of even the thought of God. Pride, YOUR pride, goes before a
fall. Do you have a clue what that means? Do you realize your
haughtiness and pride? Yes. It parades high and mighty in self and then
comes a great fall. All of you who call evil good and good evil. I can
say with love in my heart that evil is evil. God is good. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Of
course, you will choose to not accept what I am saying nor the God who
has brought it to humanity, even in the form of a man who was the word
of God become flesh, who dwelt among us, who came to save mankind from
depravity through his death, burial, and resurrection.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> You who
seek to make that God, even Jesus, small and of NO consequence by your
blasphemy, still have the offer of mercy and love by simply saying I
want Jesus in my heart. Until that time when you are brought low, to
your knees I call you by your true name: Miley Babylon, not Joy, but
Grief Babylon, Beyonce Babylon. Then there is Paris Babylon and all, the
whole lot of you, that follow the Piper of Hell and dance his dance. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Haters of American roots and anything held precious by those who
believe, get ready to kneel and confess that Jesus is Lord because you
will do it now and be saved or do it out of the damned remorse you will
feel at realizing and confess on bended knees that Jesus Christ is Lord,
when time as we know it is no more.</span></div>

As we gather together with family and friends there are not many of us who do not feel the impact of missing family. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Family is missing for multiple reasons, but we all have old memories of those who once were who are not. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The sadness that takes the place of those loved ones can indeed be debilitating at moments.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">There are losses of every kind in families and grief is an unwelcome intruder who must be dealt with.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The change in family structure due to divorce can be a staggering separation for many and is only minimized by the fact that though beloved family members may be absent at holidays and birthdays they are still on this earth and hopefully doing well.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Grave illness and grave handicap are yet another source of sorrow for many and a different type of suffering for loved ones. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">We as humans have all types of sorrows that can separate us from loved ones, sometimes that can even be long distance relationships. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then of course there is the empty nest and the broken ness brought on because of divorce and those struggles weighing on a single parent and the custody and visitation that the family suffers, however gallantly. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">There are many changes brought about in life and death is the only one that is final. Life for those bereaved by loss of all kinds brings about a whole gamut of often emotional struggles. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">What can we do? We can realize the living. The present. What we have, not what we have lost. Be active in living helping to lay groundwork for a solid foundation always for those who are in your circle of influence, the family that God has given you. The old passes away and life is always renewing in families. Honor each other in your own sorrows and losses by realizing we all suffer them at one point or another.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Most importantly in all these things it must be remembered that as written in Nehemiah http://biblehub.com/nehemiah/8-10.htm The joy of the Lord is your strength and again in Psalms http://biblehub.com/psalms/28-7.htm The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust in him and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">By mediating on just these few verses you can find the way to joy of the Lord. Don't hesitate. Taste and see that the Lord is good.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I love you and my prayer for you is that you find comfort, peace, and joy even in the times of sorrow and live your life to the fullest walking in paths with the Good Shepard. </span><br />

<h2>
Introduction</h2>
In
1947, Robert Pierce worked for a religious non-profit organization
called Youth for Christ. Its mission was to evangelize the world with
the gospel of Jesus Christ. The young evangelist started toward China
with only enough money to buy a ticket to Honolulu. On the trip, he met
Tena Hoelkedoer, a teacher. She introduced him to a battered and
abandoned child named White Jade. Unable to care for the child herself,
she asked Pierce, "What are you going to do about her?" Pierce gave the
woman his last five dollars and agreed to send the same amount each
month to help the woman care for the child.<br />
Pierce eventually made
it to China, where thousands made public commitments as followers of
Christ during four months of evangelistic rallies.<br />
While there
Pierce saw widespread hunger. He felt intense compassion for these
people. Pierce later wrote these words in the flyleaf of his Bible: "Let
my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God."
Dragging a movie camera across Asia - China was soon closed - Pierce
showed the resulting pictures to church audiences in North America. He
asked for money to help children. He showed their faces and begged
Christians to "adopt" one. In 1950 he incorporated this personal crusade
as World Vision.<br />
In 1959 journalist Richard Gehman wrote that
"[Pierce] cannot conceal his true emotions. He seems to me to be one of
the few naturally, uncontrollably honest men I have ever met." Pastor
Richard Halverson wrote that Pierce "prayed more earnestly and
importunely than anyone else I have ever known. It was as though prayer
burned within him. . . . Bob Pierce functioned from a broken heart."<br />
Jeremiah,
like Bob Pierce, served with a broken heart. He was called the weeping
prophet because his heart broke over the plight and condition of his
people. His heart ached. As challenging as Bob Pierce's work was to
raise money to support needy children, Jeremiah's ministry was even more
difficult. He was sent to deliver a hard message - a message that
required the people to repent, change, and alter their lives. Then, as
now, most people don't respond well to personal messages that require
behavioral changes. The typical response is: "Who are you to tell me
what to do?" Yet Jeremiah proclaimed this message,and he did it with a
tear in his eye.<br />
Jeremiah's mourning prefigured Jesus. In similar
manner Jesus wept over people's sin. His heart broke "because they were
weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd" (Matt. 9:36). The
ministry of Christ was a tearful ministry. The summary of his ministry
was offered by the author of Hebrews, "During His earthly life, He
offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the One who was
able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence"
(Hebrews 5:7). His ministry broke his heart and cost him his life.<br />
What breaks your heart?<br />
Before
you answer that question, let me inform you what broke Jeremiah's
heart, and Jesus' heart, and what should break your heart.<br />
<h2>
I. Let your heart be broken by turning from your sin. (vv. 5-7a)</h2>
God
told Jeremiah to say, "Why have these people turned away? Why is
Jerusalem always turning away? They take hold of deceit; they refuse to
return" (Jer. 8:5). The people in Jeremiah's day had turned away from
God, and they refused to repent. They had no desire to return to God,
though they had every opportunity to do so. Instead, the people
deliberately charged ahead in their sinful practices like a war horse
charging into battle, having no idea of the dangers involved.<br />
They
should have known better. Jeremiah reminded them that when people fall
down, they get up again. If one takes the wrong road, they turn around
to get back on the right road. Even birds know when it is time to
migrate. People should be as obedient to divine instruction, returning
to God when they sin.<br />
One of the great problems in modern
Christianity is that we practice confession of sin, but not repentance.
We hold fast to 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9), but fail to heed Jesus' words in Luke
5:32, "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance"
(Luke 5:32). We treat repentance like it is a one-time act, at
conversion, and confession is all we need after that. Jesus doesn't want
us just to acknowledge our sin, but to turn from our sin. Remember what
Jesus said to those he forgave. "Go and sin no more."<br />
We are like
children caught in misbehavior saying, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," only to
have them repeat the same mistake again. We do the same thing with God,
don't we? How often do you find yourself saying to God, "I'm sorry,"
only to repeat the same sin over and over again? To turn from the sin is
to cease from doing it.<br />
The evangelist Sammy Tippet wrote, "Too
many in the West desire to know the manifest love of God without the
manifest holiness of God. We have lost the message of repentance. Now
the church in the West is the sleeping Giant. The church in the East
sends a strong message: The repenters must repent!"<br />
Repentance is a
gift of grace. A repentant person is willing to leave his destructive
paths as a slave is willing to leave his galley, or a prisoner his
dungeon, or a thief his wares, or a beggar his rags. Repentance sets us
free.<br />
<h2>
II. Let your heart be broken by practicing God's Word. (vv. 7b-13)</h2>
The
roots of Judah's sin were a failure to repent and the rejection of
God's word. Jeremiah wrote that God says, "They have rejected the word
of the Lord" (Jer. 8:9). The people possessed the Word, but did not
practice the Word.<br />
Isn't it interesting that year in and year out
the Bible is still a bestseller? But its popularity is not keeping
Western society from crumbling morally and spiritually. There appears to
be little connection between what people say they believe and the way
people act. Could the problem lie in the fact that while we may read
God's Word and believe God's Word, we do not practice God's Word? In the
words of James, we are to "But be doers of the word and not hearers
only, deceiving yourselves" (James 1:22).<br />
It broke Jesus' heart
that the Scribes and Pharisees, the students of the Word, did not
practice the Word. They argued and debated the Scriptures but they did
not accept and follow its precepts. They had knowledge of the Law but
did not apply it.<br />
James reminded us: ". . . humbly receive the
implanted word, which is able to save you" (James 1:21). The word
receive means "to welcome" or "to come on in." To accept God's Word,
first we must welcome the word into our lives. We must give it our full
attention. We must be teachable, yielded, humble, and willing to be
changed.<br />
When we begin to put God's Word into practice it will
change our hearts. We will see people as Jesus saw people. We will hurt
as he hurt over the injustices. We will be sensitive to the
disenfranchised, lonely, abused, and neglected. We will cry for the lost
and dying without him. We will feel deeply about his passion to reach
the world.<br />
<h2>
III. Let your heart be broken by realizing the urgency of the hour. (v. 20)</h2>
Jeremiah
wrote eloquently, "Harvest has passed, summer has ended, but we have
not been saved" (Jer. 8:20). The harvest and the summer were two
different seasons. The former was the time for gathering grain. The
latter was the time for gathering fruit. If one of these harvests was a
failure, the other was usually a success. If both were unsuccessful,
stark tragedy stared the people in the face. The proverb speaks of the
tragedy of wasted opportunity. It would be said today, "Time's up!" "The
party's over." There comes a time when it is too late.<br />
While I
know little of farming, I do understand that the farmer has a brief
window when the crops are to be harvested before they rot in the fields.
The farmer must harvest before it is too late. A sense of urgency is
required to bringing in the harvest.<br />
A similar urgency needs must
be felt for the harvest of souls. Of the billions of people in the
world, it is estimated that over 30 million worldwide will die without
Christ each year. And of the over 300 million people in the United
States, it is estimated that 41 percent of the people don't go to church
at all. Not at Easter, or at Christmas, or to weddings or funerals. And
if they were to die they would go to eternal punishment without knowing
the love of Christ.<br />
Jesus' heart broke over the harvest when he
said, "The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray
to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest" (Matt.
9:37-38). He saw the people, saw the clock, and saw the need. His heart
broke because time was running out.<br />
The old preacher Vance Havner
used to say, "The tragedy of our time is that the situation is
desperate but the saints are not." We are living in desperate times. And
desperate times demand action. We live in a lost and broken world
desperate for the good news of Jesus Christ.<br />
Three weeks before
President John Kennedy was assassinated, he said, "Almost all presidents
leave office feeling that their work is unfinished. I have a lot to do,
and so little time to do it." As followers of Jesus Christ, we have
much work to do and little time to do it. We must give ourselves to it.
The times demand urgent action. Remember, the gospel is only good news
if it arrives in time.<br />
<h2>
IV. Let your heart be broken by watching someone self-destruct. (v. 21)</h2>
Jeremiah
wrote, "I am broken by the brokenness of my dear people. I mourn;
horror has taken hold of me" (Jer. 8:21). Jeremiah mourned over the sins
of the people. The people were like his child, injured, barely clinging
to life. "I mourn" literally means "I am dark" or "black," the color of
mourning attire. He was dismayed, which described a wrenching fit,
literally being convulsed with agony. Jeremiah was like a parent
watching a wayward child destroy his life through wrong choices.<br />
I
have a daughter - my only child. I hurt when she hurts. I lose sleep
when she is in trouble. I feel pain when she is in pain. I suppose only a
parent can know those kinds of emotions. While my daughter is a "good"
kid who has made mostly right decisions for which I am grateful, I can
only imagine the hurt that some parents feel when they are helpless,
watching their wayward child self-destruct.<br />
Jeremiah saw the
people of Judah as his very own children. He saw them venturing down the
slippery slope of self-destruction. His pain, his wounded heart, was
reminiscent of the pain Jesus took upon himself in Gethsemane. Jesus,
too, saw the world - the people whom he created and loved - as his own
children. When the shock and the burden of the sins of the people took
hold of him his sweat turned to blood. We get our word excruciating from
the events of Calvary, for the word means "out from the cross." The
pain, the hurt, the emotions ran deep. His heart broke excruciatingly
because the people he loved were running headlong into destruction.<br />
How often does your heart break for lost friends and the lost world?<br />
<h2>
V. Let your heart be broken by people refusing the cure. (v. 22)</h2>
"Is
there no balm in Gilead?" (Jer. 8:22) was a metaphor that his hearers
would have easily understood. Jeremiah was looking to the east, toward
the restful town of Gilead. It was located in the mountainous region
east of the Jordan River and north of Moab. It was famous for its
healing ointment made from the resin of a tree of uncertain identity.
Gilead was a symbol of hope. It was a city of cure. It was place of
remedy.<br />
Jeremiah was saying that a remedy existed for the people's
wound - repentance - but they had not applied it. A physician could
heal their spiritual sickness - the prophet with God's word - but they
refused to consult him.<br />
Do you know any sick people who refuse to
take medication or treatment? Do you know any married couples whose
marriage is on the rocks, but they refuse to see a counselor? Do you
know any employee who could be helped in his or her performance if only
they would talk to their supervisor? Do you know any spiritually lost
people who know they need to turn to Jesus but refuse to follow him?<br />
A
30-year-old man climbed over the retaining wall at Niagara Falls and
jumped into the rapids of Horseshoe Falls. Quickly the rushing currents
carried him toward the 173-foot drop. Even if he wanted to, there could
be no turning back. The 675,000 gallons of water that plunge over the
falls every second hurtled him like a toothpick over the famous Falls.<br />
Incredibly,
the man resurfaced at the bottom of the fierce currents. He was
conscious and swimming, despite a gash to his head. The force of the
falls had torn off his clothes. Very few have ever survived such a fatal
plunge. Clinging to a piece of driftwood, he swam 30 feet from the
shore. Niagara Police Sgt. Chris Gallagher yelled for him to swim toward
shore. The man refused. Letting go of the driftwood he headed in the
opposite direction swimming between the ice chunks.<br />
A helicopter
flew low over the man and extended a pole, but he did not cooperate. He
wrestled a rescue sling from his arm and swam away. Despite the
treacherous conditions of ice, high winds, and waves the helicopter made
another attempt. The pilot angled the chopper blades to create a wave
that would push the man towards the shore.<br />
Rescuers raced against
the clock. After 30 minutes in the icy waters the man weakened but
remained totally uncooperative. Firefighter Ted Brunning jumped into the
river and pulled the perishing man 200 feet to shore.<br />
He was rescued against his will. The authorities conclude the man must not have been thinking right.<br />
Jesus
sees more than just one person on a dangerous course. He sees people
from every walk of life heading toward the same end. The path of sin
does not have a good ending. Despite the well-announced warning of hell
ahead people swim on in the swirling current of their sins, unrepentant,
with the clock ticking. Time is running out. And, as bizarre as it
seems, some perishing people resist rescue. Not everyone wants to be
saved from peril. Not everyone wants to abandon the course they are on.
Not everyone wants to come to Jesus.<br />
It should break our hearts when we see:<br />
<ul>
<li>People who are unrepentant.</li>
<li>People who don't practice God's Word.</li>
<li>People who don't realize time is running out.</li>
<li>People who are self-destructing.</li>
<li class="last">People who refuse the cure.</li>
</ul>
Those people break God's heart.<br />
<h2>
Conclusion</h2>
God uses people with broken hearts. Will you let your heart be broken by the things that break God's heart?<br />
I
close with a song written by Bryan Jeffery Leech. It is entitled "Let
Your Heart Be Broken." May it challenge us to look deep within our own
hearts to see what hurts us most.<br />
<blockquote>
<i>Let your heart be broken for a world in need.<br />Feed the mouths that hunger, soothe the wounds that bleed.<br />Give the cup of water, and the loaf of bread.<br />Be the hands of Jesus, serving in his stead.</i><br />
<i>Here on earth applying principles of love.<br />Visible expression, God still rules above.<br />Living illustration of the living word,<br />To the minds of all who've never seen or heard.</i><br />
<i>Blest to be a blessing, privileged to care.<br />Challenged be the need, apparent everywhere.<br />Where mankind is wanting, fill the vacant place.<br />Be the means through which the Lord reveals His grace.</i><br />
<i>Add to your believing deeds that prove it true,<br />Knowing Christ as Savior, Make Him Master too.<br />Follow in His footsteps, go where he has trod.<br />In the world's great trouble risk yourself for God.</i><br />
<i>Let your heart be tender and your vision clear.<br />See mankind as God sees, serve Him far and near.<br />Let your heart be broken by a brother's pain.<br />Share your rich resources, give and give again.</i><br />
